Life Education 2015

Life Education

The children always look forward to Bernie and Harold The Giraffe visiting with the Life Education Truck. This year's learning is about the human body, particularly the heart. The children especially love it when Harold comes out to talk.

Some kids can't help their excitement.

St Mary's Gala 2015

St Mary's Gala 2015

Our annual gala was another success for the school last Thursday night. Mr Bach was running the bungy with Mrs Schofield and they were flat tack busy all night keeping children happy having fun. Below is a range of photos from the fun. As you can see there was a mixture of success and failure at managing to grab the can of drink. The best technique is always to run hard and reach down.

Swimming Room 16

 Swimming

St Mary's is lucky to have a swimming pool and doubly lucky to be able to heat the pool thermally. Room 16 children have proved during swimming tuition that they all have a good to excellent level of confidence in water and are developing the freestyle stroke well. If listening is good the children get free time at the end of tuition and make a variety of different choices.
See below.

Lent - A time of change

 Lent

Room 6 learnt this week about Lent and how it is a time of change when we allow Jesus to change our lives. We compared this to the change of seasons as Autumn approaches and went for a walk to collect items that represent change, such as fallen leaves. We made a cross on paper with our items - see right and below.

Google Apps for Education 2015

The children received their personal Log in details for their Google Apps for Education accounts for 2015. They can access their accounts from any computer at school or at home. This account is to be used for learning purposes only. Parents must set up a separate Google login for children if they are going to access games and other non-learning activities at home. Some families are opting to purchase a chrome book for accessing Google Apps at school, although any computer that has Internet access can be used. We have many spare computers for general use in the class. Please note that if children access non-learning sites repeatedly they will begin receive a ban as a consequence.

We are learning about cybersafety and cyberbullying issues through the Hector's Dolphin website videos.

Mrs Cato came to the class for an hour to explain Google Apps and to make the rules clear.

We have 6 n-computers, and a number of mac books, chromebooks and ipads, for class use. Computer monitors help keep the computers plugged in and put away tidily.

Meet the Teacher Evening

There will be a Meet The Teacher evening this Thursday 12th February at 3:35 - 4pm. All parents are welcome. I will give a little talk and answer any questions parents have about Room 16 in 2015. I will post on this blog later in the week the letter I intend to give out at the meeting. If you can't make the evening but would really like to meet with me please make an appointment to meet with me after school some day.

Room 16 Children

What an absolutely gorgeous bunch they are, all bright and cheery and ready for a great year of learning in Room 16. We all had a great first day with everyone (including Mr. Bach) on their
best behaviour.
