Any children's book by Roald Dahl - but particularly for younger readers:
The Twits
BFG
The Magic Finger
George's Marvelous Medicine
The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Paul Jenning's books, especially the short story compilations - Funny Stories, Weird Stories, Scary Stories etc.
Boys
The Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey boys seem to like a lot.
Bear Grylls books - both fiction and non-fiction, although difficult for less able readers.
Any sort of adventure, survival, sport, spooky, gross or bizarre books and stories tend to attract boys.
Go to the Public Library and ask if you can make an appointment to see a Children's Librarian who can show you the various options in the Children's section.
Some of the more able readers in the class may even cope with some books from the Teen's section, although you may have to double check that the subject matter is appropriate.
